Tempo Time Credits are a simple tool that help you increase volunteering and participation, to improve outcomes for public services and communities. We work with you to grow a network of local organisations and people addressing your local priorities.
People help out or volunteer in community groups, organisations or services in the Tempo network
People earn Time Credits as a thank you for their time
People can spend Time Credits on a wide range of activities, through our national network of spend partners
More and new people volunteering and participating in services
This is particularly true for under-represented groups and people on lower incomes. 59% of members surveyed had never or rarely given time before earning Time Credits. 71% earn less than the national living wage, and nearly half (49%) earn less than £10,000 per annum.
Improved health and wellbeing for individuals, physically and mentally
Independent evaluation has shown a 12% increase in average level of physical activity through Time Credits participation, and 83% of members report improved quality of life while 35% report improved mental health.
Reduced isolation and more connected communities
71% of Time Credits members felt less isolated and lonely since becoming involved in Time Credits, and 57% developed new friends and acquaintances.
Better, more co-produced services
54% of organisations using Time Credits say service users are now giving time where they weren’t before, and 49% were able to recruit new volunteers.
Improve social outcomes and drive impact
Tempo’s spend partners provide exciting opportunities and activities that inspire people to get involved in community action, many for the first time. Our growing spend network includes world-class attractions such as the Tower of London, Blackpool Tower, St Paul’s Cathedral, Barbican Centre, Wales Millennium Centre, National Botanic Gardens of Wales, The Royal Mint Experience and many National Trust properties. We also partner with leisure and arts facilities across England and Wales, to offer volunteers activities on their doorsteps.
If you commission a Time Credits programme, Tempo will develop a local network of partners where people can earn and spend Time Credits. We work with you to focus on your local priorities and ensure return on investment, improving outcomes for public services and communities. A Time Credits programme focuses on your local priorities. Examples include:
Haringey CCG
Change Grow Live, Lancashire
Orbit Housing, Bexley
Haringey Council
Welsh Government Sustainable Social Services Grant
Westminster City Council
Our programmes are funded by local authorities, CCGs, housing providers, service providers and grant funders. We also partner with other charities on funding applications.
Tempo Time Credits are coordinated by Tempo, a charity working to enable more people to volunteer, get involved in communities and create positive social change. Founded in communities, our national network has grown as a result of our flexible and collaborative approach to working with people and organisations. We’re growing a movement of future-thinking charities, statutory authorities, community groups and businesses, who share our vision for a fairer society, where everyone is valued and their contribution matters.
