Cornwall Time Credits Test

Cornwall Council’s local Time Credits programme started in 2017 and focused on supporting adults, with complex needs, particularly those accessing drug and alcohol treatment and domestic abuse and sexual violence services, to volunteer and participate in services to support their wellbeing and recovery and to increase co-production of services.

In 2 years, 900 people earned over 15,000 Time Credits through 60 local organisations and a spend network of over 60 local attractions and businesses was developed. 54% of participants reported feeling more satisfied with their life overall, 72% reported an improved sense of well-being, 63% felt more able to contribute to the community and 57% felt less lonely and isolated. A notable area of impact has been families spending positive time together with Time Credits where they would otherwise not be able to afford it.

“The scheme supports the Council’s ambitions for safer and healthier communities by prioritizing our most vulnerable residents. If we can get it right with the most vulnerable, we can get it right for everyone. By building their skills and confidence through volunteering, the programme not only helps individuals, but brings more back to local communities “
