OWL Cymru, an online watch link association based in North Wales, is an organisation that promotes public support for the work of the police service and other partners, in the protection of people and property. OWL Cymru also promotes a proactive approach for public protection and prevention of crime.
Denise is the CEO and manager of OWL Cymru’s volunteers who support the organisation. Volunteers earn Time Credits by participating in a range of initiatives arranged by OWL Cymru, including community safety events and hosting coffee mornings that serve as peer swap clinics for older and vulnerable members of the community.
Denise describes that she found the process of signing up to start using Time Credits understandable and easy, which helped the organisation integrate Time Credits quickly into their organisation. OWL Cymru enjoys using Time Credits to reward volunteers for giving their time and encouraging them to enjoy new experiences with family and friends.
‘Time Credits have provided our organisation with a valuable means of giving something to our diverse volunteer team’.
Using Time Credits within the group has contributed to improving communication networks within the team, and has helped volunteers try out new things outside of the group, both with support and alone.
Volunteers with OWL Cymru have recently used Time Credits to explore their local area. Carl and his son Ben are looking forward to taking a day trip to Erddig, whilst Tash has been using her Time Credits regularly to bowl, go swimming and visiting a spa with her support worker.
Older volunteers have also found Time Credits to be a great opportunity to experience new opportunities.
Denise and OWL Cymru have received a slew of positive feedback from their members who have received Time Credits. Mavis, in her eighties, found being able to use Time Credits and participate in social activities to be a great opportunity after a recent hospital discharge which left her spirits low. Similarly, Pat, in her 70’s, was glad to be able to join Mavis and a group of friends on a recent day out after a recent cancer diagnosis.
‘I have been diagnosed with cancer and have been feeling very low. I was so pleased to be asked by Mavis to join her in visiting Theatre Clwyd. Thank you for suggesting this to Mavis as I would not have done this without her calling me–thank you for being you’.
